TROLL HUNTER

In 2005 I went to Norway with my family for three weeks.

One day, my dad and I were out looking at ancient viking burial mounds and enjoying the afternoon. We had split off from the rest of the group (who weren't as excited about piles of rocks as we were) and had driven out to a local farm where the burial sights were. Nothing was particularly fancy about these rocks, we just wanted to get in as much Viking culture as we could.

After a few minutes of wandering around the area looking at the grave sites, I noticed a few deer in the field of tall grass across the way. The field was maybe 100 Yards wide, with thick forest on the other side. The deer were about halfway across. Being the young nerd I was, I pointed my camera at them and started filming. My dad and I talked about the deer briefly.

And that's when it happened.

A loud noise came roaring out of the forest across from us, a loud barking, grunting sound. My dad and I froze, and looked towards the trees. The deer panicked, and sprinted away from the noise. We stared at the where the sound came from, not daring to speak in case it made another noise.

"What was that?" my dad exclaimed. It was clearly something that neither of us had heard before.

"Must have been a Troll" I jokingly answered. He jokingly agreed.

We stood there for a while, hoping to hear another sound. We didn't, and we soon left.

I forgot about this encounter for a long time.

CUT TO:

Last night. I was listening to some sound recordings made in Washington State of what is thought to be a sasquatch, when it hit me. I suddenly remembered about the Norwegian Troll encounter. One of those recordings sounded exactly like what I had heard all those years ago. "But are there reports of Bigfoot in Norway?" I thought to myself. "I dunno, but they have trolls."

But what exactly are trolls?
Well, according to the Norwegian myths they are giant, hairy men who live in the mountains.

Maybe we heard a troll after all.
